At this point I have removed the apron from the carriage to clean out the dirty oxdized grease that should have never been there. I am also quite happy as I have just used Van Keuren wires to check the 6 TPI Acme thread on the lead screw. The Acme thread was nicely within spec
The door to the electrical compartment was recently spray painted. Observe the nylon skid washers under the two captive RHMS on the edge of the door. After this much work I am not going to allow screws to scratch the paint. The S.S. captive screws have turned down shanks, polished heads and are 5/16-18 x1"
If you locate a Rivett whose cross-slide is fitted with the optional accumulator dial, feel fortunate. These dials have two engraved cylinders of 3-1/8" diameter that revolve at different speeds. The engraved thousandths lines are far apart and are easy to read. The rear cylinder displays the number of turns of the front cylinder - a DRO of 50 years ago.
